BE Club Two Fours Success

Congratulations must go to Gosforth BC for reaching the regional finals of the Bowls England Club Two Fours competition. They qualified after beating Selby BC at Middlesbrough BC on Wednesday night.

2009 Season So Far

In the inaugural season for Bowls Northumberland, the season got off to a good start with the County Under 25 double rinks producing a good win against Lincolnshire CBA at Kirkbymoorside BC. This put them in the regional semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, they beat Durham CBA to only lose out in the regional final to Cumbria CBA.

Unfortunately, the County Top Double rinks were unable to maintain the momentum and were narrowly defeated by Lancashire CBA.

In the Middleton Cup, Bowls Northumberland saw them placed in new section along with Derbyshire, Lancashire and Yorkshire. Bowls Northumberland did gain revenge against Lancashire CBA a couple of days later, by defeating them 20-2 points in the at Gosforth BC. With Derbyshire beating Yorkshire in their opening game 17-5 points, it left Bowls Northumberland at the top of the section. However, after the 2nd game their was mixed emotions after Bowls Northumberland lost to Yorkshire 18-4 points at Dunnington BC, but with news of Lancashire beating Derbyshire 12-10 points, has left the group wide open, with 3 out the 4 teams with a chance of progressing to the quarter finals.

In the Muras Cup, Bowls Northumberland lost their first game to Durham at Houghton Dairy Lane, but then won their next two games against Lancashire and Yorkshire.

In the Alsop Cup, Bowls Northumberland have won their first 3 games and sit top of group. Also in the Armstrong trophy, Bowls Northumberland have won 3 of their first 4 games at also sit at the top of group.

At club level in the Bowls England Over 55 pairs, John Cleverley (St Georges BC) & Bill Pym (Cramlington BC) are in the Area Semi-Final against a team from Sillouth in Cumbria.

In the Bowls England Over 55 singles, Colin Boyle (Portland) plays David McManus from Courtfield BC in the Area Semi Final.

In the Bowls England Champion of Champions, Robert Chisholm (Willows BC) has reached the Regional Final at Middlesbrough BC.

In the Bowls England Mixed Pairs and the Mixed Fours, Peter Duffy and his partner(s) has reached the Area Semi Final.

In the Bowls England Top Club, Backworth Welfare BC lost to Whitehaven BC 3-2 at Brampton in the Area Semi-Final.

In the Bowls England Club Two Fours, Gosforth BC ‘B’ will play against Selby BC at Kirkbymoorside BC in Area Final.

Their was also good news for Kevin Wall from Gosforth BC as he was selected to represent Bowls England in the International Series at the Belmont BC in Belfast. Also Robert Chisholm from the Willows BC was selected to Bowls England in the Junior International Series.
